Walking tips

Living healthy in this Pandemic situation is quite challenging. Yes, mask and social distancing play a major role.
Walking, Gym or outdoor activities like playing tennis, shuttle  which keep us fit is taboo now. Yoga, exercises should be mandatory now. If your body is not flexible, not able to do yoga or exercises, or above 60, or has undergone major surgery need not worry. These are the best tips and tricks to be followed. You may find helpful with these tips and ideas. 

1) Take frequent walks for 10 minutes in the hall or bedroom. If corridor or balcony is available then well and good. Even while talking over the phone please do not sit. you can walk while talking. 

2) Set a reminder in your phone and walk which will make it regular.

3) Walk for 15 minutes take rest and walk again for 15 minutes. Do this in the morning and evening.

4)You can do “8” walking in the home. It messages all the organs in the stomach which enhance digestion.

5) But if you have undergone surgey then consult your healthcare professional. 

6) “8” Walking may not help who have IBS. So be caareful if “8” walking is working out well then carry on. If not do orninary walking itself.

Healthy foods
1) Don’t take heavy foods which are not digestible easily. Take minimum quantity and do not overeat.
2) As far as possible avoid sweets, fried items.
3Take a lot of water. Be hydrated.
4) Take vegetable soups, vegetable salads dressed in a lot of coriander leaves, lemon juice, or chopped mint.
5) Sprouts, steamed food are good for health.
6) Avoid juices since it has sugar which is not advisable for diabetics.
7) Have your dinner early before 7.30 p.m. and not late at night. It’s very difficult to get digested.
8)Add a lot of ginger, mint, curry leaves, jeera, fennel, ajwain which helps digestion.
9) Do not prepare all the immunity powder prepared and shown on social media. Cinnamon, cloves, ginger, pepper will make the body produce a lot of heat. Since India is a tropical country and now summer in all parts of India. It’s better to have it 2 or 3 days a week.

Avoid media
13) Go to bed early. Do not watch unnecessary news, post in the media. Even watching television is not a positive way to lead a life.
14) Long usage of television watching, computer screens make your eyes weak and tired.

15) The media news makes our mind weak and give negative thoughts, bad thoughts etc., which are not good for strong mind.

16) Avoid violence scenes and third rated movies in  the television.

Concentration

Its concentration. Always, your faculty or guide would be instructing “concentrate”.It is not only when we are in the classroom but also everywhere. Whatever work we do, we must concentrate on that work alone. Never wander your thoughts or vision somewhere. Then the fault is on us. Any work with full concentration brings satisfaction and success. It will only bring us pleasure if we concentrate and dedicate ourselves to it. This is something you could have experienced in your life. One friend of mine, who has the duty to take care of her old and ailing mother-in-law, was always in a state of stress. I advised her to concentrate on her work, which helped her come out of the stress.

Meditation works wonders in your life. Though it is incredible, it is true and proven scientifically. We all think that practicing meditation helps to improve either spiritual well-being or mental well-being. But it covers all the aspects of spiritual, mental, emotional, and physical well-being.

Spiritual Well-Being:

When you start doing meditation, do not think that you will get enlightenment within a single day or after 10 days. You can observe the changes gradually. Ignore the thoughts that come to you, whether they are positive or negative thoughts, past incidents, or sad or happy moments.

But the present fast-changing lives, technology, and the present pandemic situation make us sick and unhealthy. Food habits, timing, and quality of food are a big challenge to keeping us healthy. The vegetables, fruits, grains, and everything else are adulterated and fertilized with heavy toxic chemicals, which leads to chronic diseases. Meditation helps to heal our body from the toxins we take from food and the air we breathe.

How to practice meditation

Initially, start with 10 minutes, then increase it gradually. Do it religiously. The best time is early in the morning, and you can continue in the mid-afternoon instead of taking small naps and in the evening if time permits. Before going to bed to relax your mind and get away from the stress, it is mandatory at night as well.

A. Close your eyes.

B. Keep a smile on your face.

C. Sit straight with your spine erect.

D. Keep your palms in the dhyana mudra facing the ceiling.

E. Set a timer or play music.

F. Fixed timings: morning 6 means daily 6 a.m

G. Sit in padmasana or vajrasana or sit in a chair with folded legs.

Meditation makes miracles. Yes, it is true. If you wish to reach your goals, achieve your aim or lead a healthy life “Meditation” is the only method to accomplish it.
It is not just closing your eyes and sitting quietly. Thoughts emerge like waves which are both positive or negative. We are addicted to social media due to the development of technology where sitting quietly with closed eyes is now a herculean task. Due to its impact, thoughts that are emerging are not based on our attitude but due to browsing. So it is mandatory to keep a check while browsing. Also, our mind always asks us to see the mobile rather than do any other work. I started to practice meditation for 15 minutes in the morning, evening and night before going to bed.
The meditative mind makes us calm, relieve stress, anxiety. While meditating observe the breathe. Then increase the timings gradually.
Just visualize your goals. Plan the strategy in a meditative pose. It can reach you to great heights.

While doing meditation you need a serene atmosphere or calm place. Initially, light a lamp or candle and you can just concentrate the focal point of the lamp if you are unable to concentrate. Later after practise you can start closing your eyes chant any mantra or affirmations. mantras can be simple like “OM” which brings peace to your mind. Otherwise just close your eyes and take a deep breathe and just observe the breathe.
The divine within you will take you to insights and you can visualize some images too. Please do not be specific. You need not worry even if you are not able to see any images.
Always set a specific time and practise it. Do it religiously and make it punctual to practise meditation. The continuous practise of meditation will guide you with intuition, plan the future and guide to take decisions accurately. Meditation makes you relieve stress and brings glow to your face and reduces wrinkles.
Also it controls unwanted desires, calms the nervous system and make you composed person. After starting meditation my anxiety level is reduced also my hypertension is controlled.

Pranayama Benefits


Pranayama benefits are numerous and tremendous. When appropriately practiced it has a number of health benefits. But you have to practice it religiously. Like you brush your teeth it should be followed. There must be no break.
Hindu philosophy is mainly based on karma. So we pray to nature, sun as a god, performing cow’s pooja and Go Dhana [donating cows to eligible person], Thulasi (basil) plant and Aswath (banyan trees) are holy and auspicious. By praying sincerely we can get rid of sins. Also by doing pranayama we can get rid of our sins. Interesting is it? Yes!!! It purifies our Nadis. In a human being, there are 76,000 nadis. The right side has 36,000 nadis and the Left side has 36,000 nadis. While we do pranayama, our nadis get purified, and the past misdeeds are removed by the grace of Eashwar.

Also, it was said that Kowsalya Lord Rama’s Mother performed pranayama. Even in the epics, we have proof of doing pranayama. To inhale the air, first, take a deep breath as you smell a flower. Hold the breath for 5 counts and then exhale.
This you can do for every 30 seconds which helps to avoid stress.
Benefits of Pranayama:
There are a lot of benefits that we were not aware of the Pranayama.
1. It removes the stress which makes us feel good.

How to do Pranayama:
Initially, pranayama should be learned from a proper teacher or guru. Though there are various social media posts that will teach you to do pranayama, the right way is to learn from an experienced person.
They are many types of Pranayama

4. Right nostril breathing
5. Left nostril breathing.
6. Box breathing.

Alternate nostril breathing -Pranayama should be practised in the early hours of morning [ 4.30 a.m. to 6.00 a.m] . It helps to purify your mind and cures anxiety, stress, depression, and hypertension.

Kapalbhati helps to reduce weight and blood sugar. In Kapalbhati inhale with the both nostrils and exhale through the both nostrils. There is no holding of breathe. Exhalation should be fast. It is better to learn from a skilled person.

Bhramari Pranayama helps to control your mind and thoughts. This pranayama can be done by pregnant ladies. But seek advice from the doctor before doing it. It controls agitated mind. It has lot of benefits. Even Alzheimer is prevented by doing this pranayama.

Box breathing helps to cure insomnia. It is also called square breathing. Inhale with the count of four, hold for four counts and exhale for four counts and hold the breath for four counts. you can practice box breathing before sleep or evening. Even if you are awake during midnight or in the mid of the sleep, box breathing helps. It controls unnecesary thoughts and aids to make you sleep.

Introduction to apana mudra

Apana mudra is beneficial to diabetic patients since it balances the space and earth elements within the body. It flushes out the toxins from our body, So, it is also called purification mudra. This mudra can be practiced at any time. If you are pregnant then consult your gynaecologist  as it eases delivery. The only caution is pregnant ladies can do it after 8 months for comfortable delivery. [Note: consult your health care professional or Gynaecologists before doing this mudra]. No age bar to restrict this mudra. If you are suffering from loose motion or vomiting please avoid this mudra. once recovered you can do this mudra.

Good for digestion

Apana mudra relieves the stomach pain as it aids in digestion. Gastric problems are cured. But this mudra should be practised regularly or atleast for 21 days for the best results. Even diabetic patients can do this mudra as it eases digestion. The name Apana itself reveals that it is good for stomach as the Apana vayu is present in our belly. So when you have overeaten in marriage or parties you can perform this mudra.

How to do:

Bend slightly your middle and ring finger with the tip of the thumb finger. Keep the index finger and pinky finger straight. It should be done with both hands.

It can be practiced for 45 minutes daily or split into 15 minutes -3 times a day. Also, you can do this mudra while walking also. Even before sleeping this mudra can be done.

Gyan Mudra


Gyan mudra is powerful and the best mudra to increase concentration and focus. This Gyan mudra is practiced mainly while doing meditation. The yogis do this mudra to get concentration and focus on the Almighty and focus on their goal. It is an easy and simple mudra.

Gyan mudra can be practiced by children, and young adults [ who want to succeed in their career]. First will tell the benefits which will motivate us to do it. Then how to perform it. The best practicing time is early morning.

Benefits :

1)This mudra helps in concentration, awareness and foucs.

2. Removes the stress.

3. Protects from Alzheimer disease.

4. Improves the sleep [ get into deep sleep.] As the age increases sleep will be disturbed. Many old age people sleep with the help of sleeping medicines.

5. If done by young people, children above 5 years their alertness increases.

Duration: To do for 45 minutes will give the best result. Either you can split for 15 minutes in the morning, afternoon, and evening. Any habit to cultivate it should be done for 21 days. So have to do religiously for 21 days to get the result. This mudra can be performed anywhere and anytime.

How to do:

Bend the index finger and touch the tip of the thumb finger. Press slightly. The other 3 fingers should be kept straight. It is best to sit in padmasana or vajra asana. Observe your breath. Then gradually you have to breathe in and breathe out. [ Pranayama].

Note: Do not watch television and do this mudra. Sit in a calm and serene place for the best results.

cons: Any mudra after the desired result should not be practised. After 3 or 4 months sometimes the vayu element may get increased. So it is better to stop for sometime and resume the mudra after 2 or 3 months.

Mudras help us to stay healthy and activate the energies. They are simple hand gestures with no side effects. By doing mudras you can cure body pains, knee pain, improve digestion, balance thyroid problems, cure throat pain, control body weight, and maintain a healthy life. I have mentioned the best and easy mudras.

You can practice mudras either in the early morning or during the evening. There are no rules and mainly no side effects. Practicing mudra daily for 40 minutes or split into 3 sessions 15 minutes duration. While doing mudra the main aspect is observing the breath. If you focus your mind on breathing, the mind concentrates on what you are doing. Also, you can do the mudras by walking or waiting in the traffic. My best advice is to: please don’t do while watching Television.

The best immunity booster drink can be prepared at home using simple ingredients. When you feel like a throat infection and feel like having a sore throat. Do it yourself and you would enjoy drinking it.

I used to prepare it even when there is a sign of throat pain, cold, cough, and drink it. When you drink this miracle drink it keeps the Covid -19 at a distance. Nowadays the Government has relaxed and we have come out of lockdown phase. We cannot stop going out at least for essential. Please do not go out frequently. Plan for a week and do not stay in one place for more than 20 minutes. If the place is crowded avoid it. As you know when we step out of the house we must wear a mask and use sanitizer. Though you know these points just I am reminding you as well as for me.

Whenever you go out and enter the house wash your hands and legs nicely. Change your attire and prepare this miracle drink and consume it. Even you can 2 or 3 times per day. Also, it enhances digestion since ginger is used. If you add cinnamon it controls your blood sugar and helps in losing weight. 

Old people, senior citizens, take care and do not go out unnecessarily. Though you feel like going out, to maintain safe health you must be inside your nest. Take advice from health care professionals and consume this miracle drink. If you take medicines for diabetes then limit the usage of cinnamon since the blood sugar level will go down considerably. So take care and take advice from your doctors. 

Preparation for 2 persons

Ingredients required :
Cloves – 4
Ginger -small pieces
turmeric – 1/2 teaspoon
salt -1/4 teaspoon or
honey – 1/4 teaspoon
lemon peels -half sliced lemon [ take the juice to keep it separate]
cinnamon – small bark {optional}
How to prepare:
Take 3 cups of water, add the above ingredients. Let it boil for 5 – 10 minutes. Filter it. Add the lemon juice. Drink it. Awesome. The spiciness in cloves, cinnamon, and the taste of lemon is awesome.!!!

If you need you can add cinnamon. But cinnamon makes your body overheat. so I avoid it as I live in a tropical climate. But you can use it if you like it.
